Kanji.codevelopment

At Kanji.codevelopment, we believe that health is more than medicine—it’s about community, culture, and empowerment.

Today, we’re thrilled to launch our new website, cokanji.com, and kick off our blog with a heartfelt invitation to join us in transforming healthcare and well-being in rural Senegal and The Gambia. Whether you’re part of the Gambian diaspora, a global supporter of sustainable development, or a local community member, this is your space to connect, learn, and co-create a brighter future.

Who we are: Kanji.codevelopment

A social enterprise tooted in co-development

Founded in 2025 (after 10 years of work) by Fátima Drammeh, a nurse with a decade of expertise in mental health, and co-director Mariano Pagani Clark, Kanji.codevelopment is a social enterprise based in Brufut Wullinkamma, Gambia.

We’re a team of professionals and community advocates working hand-in-hand with rural communities to build sustainable, culturally relevant solutions. Our work focuses on delivering equitable healthcare, empowering women and youth.

From our first Kanji Experience in Kerewane France, Kolda, Senegal, where we served 635 patients in 2024, to our upcoming initiatives in Firdausi and Tanka Tanka in 2025, we’re committed to leaving no one behind. As a social enterprise, we combine mission-driven impact with innovative, scalable models to create lasting change.

Why our work matters: Health, culture and equity

In Senegal and The Gambia, access to quality healthcare remains a challenge, especially in rural areas. Systemic barriers like cost, distance, and limited infrastructure persist, while mental health support is often overlooked. Kanji.codevelopment is tackling these challenges with community-driven solutions:

  • Accessible healthcare: We organize Kanji Experience events that bring free medical checkups, primary care, and health education to underserved communities.

  • Mental health advocacy: Building on our work with Tanka Tanka Psychiatric Hospital, we train community health workers to identify and support mental health challenges, breaking stigma in rural settings.

  • Women’s and youth empowerment: Through training programs and cooperatives, we support women and young leaders in building economic independence and community resilience.

Our approach ensures that healthcare is affordable, culturally relevant, and sustainable, empowering communities to thrive.

Our journey so far: From vision to impact

Since our inception in 2017, Kanji.codevelopment has grown from a bold idea to a transformative force. In 2024, our Kanji Experience in Kerewane, Senegal, provided medical care to 635 patients and conducted 267 psychosocial surveys, laying the groundwork for data-driven health solutions.

This year, we’re having another Kanji Experiences planned for July in Firdausi and N'Dofane (Senegal) and Tanka Tanka (The Gambia), focusing on medical care, mental health training, and cultural exchange.

Our expertise in health systems and technology enables us to create inclusive models that resonate with communities and inspire global support.

Looking ahead: A future of resilience and unity

As we launch cokanji.com, we’re not just building a website—we’re creating a hub for connection, inspiration, and action. In 2025, we’ll expand our Kanji Experiences, deepen our mental health programs, and grow our women’s cooperatives. By 2026, we aim to host the Kanji Health Summit, bringing together global and local voices to scale our model across Africa.

Together, we can make healthcare a right, not a privilege. Welcome to Kanji.codevelopment—let’s co-develop a future where health, culture, and community thrive.
